Invitation to join awarded COST action on one health education (first funding period to members now open)

Dear colleagues,

I am writing to invite you to join the European COST Action CA24106 BEACON and to inform you that the call for Short Term Scientific Missions is now open, in the capacity of action founder and current communications officer. Please, share my invitation to all your colleagues who may be interested in taking part in an awarded EU COST action devoted to one health education.

Our action, COST CA24106, Building Education and One Health with Adaptive Convergence and Open Networks (BEACON), is an awarded European research and innovation network focused on developing and implementing One Health education through open governance and new digital technologies. The Action brings together researchers, educators, institutions, authorities, and practitioners to co design curricula, methods, and infrastructures that can be implemented across countries, disciplines, and educational systems. It operates across the full EU COST area and in international collaboration, with a strong emphasis on open science, open education, inclusiveness, and real world implementation. COST, European Cooperation in Science and Technology, is a European funding framework that supports long term, bottom up research and innovation networks by financing coordination, collaboration, and capacity building rather than individual research projects. COST Actions typically run for four years and provide flexible funding for networking instruments such as meetings, training schools, Short Term Scientific Missions, dissemination activities, and open infrastructures. COST Action CA24106 BEACON is funded until late 2029 and has a total budget in the range of several hundred thousand euros over its lifetime, allocated annually and managed under strict accountability rules to support participation across the full COST area, with particular attention to inclusiveness, early career researchers, and under resourced contexts.

The Short Term Scientific Missions scheme supports targeted research, training, and implementation activities, either virtual or face to face, hosted by member institutions of the Action. Each mission can be funded with up to 4,000 euros, depending on duration, format, and objectives. These missions are intended to foster collaboration, build capacity, and accelerate concrete outputs such as curriculum development, methodological work, action research, and institutional uptake. Participation in the Action is open and free of charge. Registration as a COST Action member is mandatory in order to apply for STSM funding. You can register and find full details about the Action, its objectives, working groups, and ongoing activities at the following link:

More detailed information about the scope of the Action, governance, and opportunities for participation is available on the same page. I encourage you to review it and to circulate this invitation within your networks to colleagues who may be interested. Funding for this year is now open. I encourage to chat with the work group leaders on the needs of the action -what contributions are now sought after to clear the action roadmap- before applying.

I would be glad to answer any questions and to discuss possible mission ideas or collaborations.

Kind regards,

--
