Daniel loves exploring the unknown, the thrill and the sense of accomplishment that comes with making the unknown familiar. This passion has inspired him to make significant transitions, both conceptually and with methodology, at every stage of his career. He purposefully chooses research projects that serve to improve human health and stands to make fundamental discoveries of human biology and human life. His research work integrates the development of new computational methods and thier application to experimental and theoretical approaches for expanding the use of biological and medical data. The goal of his research is to understand the genetic and molecular basis of human diseases including HIV and to identify intrinsic mechanisms and novel drug therapies that can restore normal functions.

Daniel’s current work investigates the relationship between substance misuse and HIV/AIDS in Germany. He is working on producing two computer-simulated tools (in silico testing) to support future risk assessments on new psychoactive substances.

Another ongoing project is about turning stem cell biology into stem cell medicine. This investigation includes molecular and cellular engineering approaches to study stem cells (stem cell bioengineering, gene delivery systems, and molecular virology) with applications in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.
