Transform to Open Science (TOPS) | Science Mission Directorate

Within the TOPS mission, NASA is designating 2023 as the Year of Open Science , a global community initiative to spark change and inspire open science engagement through events and activities that will shift the current paradigm. TOPS is only a starting point ; NASA is making a long term commitment to support building an inclusive open science community over the next decade. To support the effort, TOPS has three overarching goals:

  1. Increase understanding and adoption of open science principles and techniques in our Mission and Research Communities
  2. Accelerate major scientific discoveries through supporting the adoption of open science
  3. Broaden participation by historically excluded communities

Looks exciting!

I think ESIP’s going to be at the forefront of this.

Want to participate in TOPS? There is a call for Curriculum Modules Leads and Content Subject Matter Experts. Note these are paid roles. Apply by March 25th.

Indeed, ESIP does have an Open Science Cluster, which seems closely linked to TOPS and the Year of Open Science (I’m glad to see that robust community building around Open Science features prominently). It looks like a nice community to join for anybody interested in contributing to the TOPS project. @cerdmann ?

It is connected. Several us from TOPS are there including Cindy, Marc, Yuhan, me… ESIP is in general a nice venue to join.
